I just picked up a set of these. I'm a newb. What's the recommended prep?
                    1) Loctite everything?
                    2) grease the gears?
                    3) grease axle shafts?
                    4) grease the bearings?
                    5) all the above?

                    Thanks!

                      Welcome to the revolution...

                      1. Loctite all screws that go into metal. Medium (blue)
                      2. Yes to greasing gears. Find a thick grease that doesn't break down.
                      3. No need
                      4. Never grease bearings. A light bearing oil. Grease Will attract dirt.
                      5. See above.

Make sure you post a build...would love to see it.

                      John

I wasn't planning to post a build thread because mine will be pretty boring, I.e., I'll be won't be doing anything that hasn't already been done many times over, but since you asked, why not. :-)

Also, you have a recommendation for an oil for the bearings? The only light oil I have around here at the moment is WD-40.

                        Thanks

You don't want to use WD-40...

Here are some that I have used personally:

Avid Slip Bearing Oil will blow you away from the performance gains you will receive by using it. Take our word for it, this is very expensive oil and has been through several 3rd party tests and it isn't even a competition against the other common light

There a many more but this will give you an idea. You don't need a lot. A drop on each side is way more than you need.
