Hello, this is my first time posting, I'm just going to jump right into it.
I am building a from scratch off road vehicle as a project. Right now I have run into a snag. Because of the need for 4 wheel drive, and a lack of a 4x4 to scavenge from, I need to reverse a standard differential. The way my vehicle is set up, both differentials will need to face toward the center. Sadly I only have rear wheel drive differentials available to me. The problem is that if the differential in the front will be facing the wrong way.
So, my question is two fold.
1. Can I just flip the axel over long ways (essentially changining the placement of the wheels)? I know that that would give me the right direction of drive, but is it safe to run a differential upside down?
2. Is there a way I could take the thing apart and rebuild it to run in reverse?
I have a lot of mechanical experience, but I have never done anything with differentials, so I would appreciate any help or advice.
