    TF2 Transmission trouble

Brand new TF2 kit, finished and ready to go. First time off of the bench and out onto the sidewalk for a trial run, and the 2nd speed gear broke in the transmission. It was shifting perfectly.....I have the shift servo dialed in absolutely PERFECT....a few times back and forth between 1st and 2nd to compare the two, and bam, the truck slows to a stop. Motor revved but no movement. I was going pretty easy on this pup too...haven't even hit the trail yet! Checked shift points, perfect. Disassembled the trans and found this....a cracked 2nd gear, split where it's pressed into the drum at the factory. Contacted RC4WD customer service but haven't heard back about any type of resolution. Have any of you experienced this??

Bummed. This will be the second weekend I won't be able to run my new TF2.

Seriously?? Why did I have to get the dud? Well, hopefully they'll stand behind their product, but so far I haven't heard anything back, so I'm not holding my breath. I will post on RCcrawler and see what surfaces there. And I may contact Tower Hobbies and see if they can do anything to help me out....that's where I ordered it.

You've posted this in the right place. RC4WD always stand by their products and the customer services dept will be in contact very soon.

Hang in there bud it will be worth it in a short period of time.

Thanks. I emailed 'Rc4wd' here on the forum. Hopefully they'll pull through for me and I can move forward with my TF2 build. I'm still enthused about the truck, but this sorta took the wind out of my sails. I'll keep you guys in the loop, and if RC4WD makes good on my busted tranny gear I'll be a happy camper.

Worth mentioning, the crack in the gear sprung open. ?? Not sure what this indicates, but it could be a clue as to why the gear failed. Tolerances too tight where it was pressed into the drum? Metal tensile strength issue?? I have no idea.

This is going from bad to worse....

Not feeling good about this at all. Just received an email from RC4WD....they have NOT read my emails fully, and aren't understanding my issue....I even included photos! But yet, they seem to be getting a little testy about my inquires. It's been a friggin' week, and I haven't heard back.

Just to get something straight....."I" didn't sell a customer a "lemon", RC4WD did! First, the kit was missing the inner pinion gear bearing on the front diff (which they promptly replaced, thank you), and secondly, the transmission gear broke on the truck's very first run! I just want to get this truck built and off of my bench. Simple as that.

If RC4WD had a PHONE NUMBER listed, this could have been remedied in one phone call!

Yes, they sent brand new upgraded gears....ONE-PIECE gears, by the way, not pressed two-piece like the ones that come with the kit. The new gears have held up incredibly. No issues whatsoever. And I beat on my TF2 pretty hard. I've upgraded the diff gears to the heavy duty helical cut gears though. The heavy duty upgrades are killer, but they SHOULD come in the kit IMO.

Youre going to love the TF2......but I highly recommend the kit version over the RTR. The 2-speed transmission is the SOUL of the TF2. I use 1st gear as my primary crawling gear, and it also serves as my drag brake since it's so low. 2nd gear is the perfect trail speed, and since 1st acts as the drag, you can set your ESC without drag which makes it more pleasant to trail.

i should also mention, I love the TF2s so much, I now own 3 of them. I also have two Gelandes....the FJ Cruiser and the D90. I've become a huge fan of RC4WD's trucks.

Lol the reason i like the rtr is the single speed trans
I like it slow moving (more relaxing for me) sign of old age i think lol
I used to own a tf2 kit was a shelf queen
But sadly gave it away to a kid
